About Colt
Founded 1855 • West Hartford, Connecticut
Samuel Colt patented the first mass-produced revolver in 1836 and founded Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company in 1855 in Hartford, Connecticut. Colt revolvers won the American West, and Colt's M1911 pistol served as the U.S. military's standard sidearm from 1911 to 1985. The company produced the M16 rifle for the U.S. military throughout the Vietnam era and continues to supply the M4 carbine to U.S. forces today. Colt was acquired by Czech firearms maker CZG in 2021 but continues to manufacture iconic American firearms in Hartford.

Colt's current civilian lineup includes the 1911 family (Government Model, Commander, Defender, Competition), the Python and Anaconda stainless-steel double-action revolvers (revived in recent years), the King Cobra, the Single Action Army (Peacemaker), and the M4 Carbine / AR-15 rifle platform. Colt also produces the CBX precision bolt-action rifle. The company is known for faithful reproductions of its historic designs alongside modern variants.
